Introduction to Songwriting

This session will introduce participants to the basic skills of songwriting. It is not a requirement to have participated in previous Surrey Jazz Nights Workshops to attend this session.

What goes on behind the songs we listen to every day? Have you ever wondered about how to start writing your own songs?

This workshop will:

1. Walk participants through the songwriting process including how to write lyrics, ways to approach melody and basic harmonic practices.
2. Explore different pop songwriting techniques
3. Discuss strategies and advice on how to develop your artistic voice

This workshop is open to teens ages 13 to 18 and no prior music or songwriting experience is required. If you would like to attend the workshop but not participate (i.e. you wouldn’t play during the workshop) please feel free to indicate that in the form.
